Climate Change’s Effects in Your Local Area

Societal issues become hard to grasp at the individual level when the effects are not felt directly. You could be seeing uproar on social media about a serious matter, but if this is not the case where you live, or if this does not affect someone you know personally, it’s easy to feel detached and disinterested.

The case of climate change is different in that it has become severe enough for everyone to feel its effects. The question is, have you noticed?

Changing Weather Patterns

Regardless of whether you experience the four seasons or you live in a tropical country, you would have noticed the colder months are not as cold as they used to be. They could also come in later than usual, with more extreme changes between day and night temperatures.

Endangerment of Plant and Animal Life

If you’ve seen in the news that more and more local flora and fauna are being added to the list of endangered species, that is also an effect of climate change. You’ve probably wondered at some point how climate change causes heat waves, and maybe you have gotten your answer, but it doesn’t stop there. Because of the changes in weather patterns, wildfires, and heatwaves, more plant and animal life are not getting the ideal conditions to survive healthily.

Wildfires

If you’ve ever heard of the 2020 South California and Australia wildfires, you should already be aware of how destructive global warming can get. Even if your area is not experiencing something as severe as those two examples, you may still hear of small fires seemingly starting out of nowhere. This does not only release more gases to the environment, but it also destroys plant and animal life, and in some cases, human life as well.

There is no area immune to the effects of climate change. Do your part in sounding the alarm and making efforts to help the climate heal.
